Service Learning Champion Award

Congratulations to our own Carol Bazenet, secretary with Career Services and Community Engagement. She was recently honored with the Service Learning Champion Award at the MTSU Institute of Experiential Learning and Tennessee Campus Compact Awards Ceremony.

Recent achievements for the office include:

1.      Establishing an annual mayor and non-profit event on campus.
  • This has resulted in new faculty-nonprofit relationships and increased opportunities for Community Service engagement with our students.

2.      Developing the first Sumner County and Trousdale County 8th grade Career Exploration Fair, bringing  45 College Faculty, over 100 career representatives and over 2,200 school children together for a day of industry, career, and educational exploration.
  • Investing in children early on in their academic careers results in better qualified, more highly engaged citizens in the future.

3.      Initiating information sessions for faculty addressing grant opportunities focused on integrating community engagement in the learning process.
  • The first information session last fall ultimately resulted in successful grant submissions.

4.      Launching a new online media marketing campaign to increase student exposure to civic engagement opportunities.
  • The online web engagement has increased dramatically in the last year.

5.      Developing a process to help connect students with businesses seeking interns at the Vol State Job Career Fairs.
