Remembering Fran Miller

Secretaries are the back-bone of the academic divisions on campus. Their service to the college is broad-reaching, especially for those who have worked in the same division for many years. Such was the case with Fran Miller. She served the Business and Technology Division for 22 years. Fran retired from Vol State in 2015. She recently passed away. Those who worked with her paused to remember.

“Fran was the most organized person I ever worked with in the past forty years,” said former Business dean, John Espey. “She was always ready to keep everyone on schedule and she was a great person.  It was a real honor to know her and to work with her for twenty years.”

"Fran was a strong, supportive friend and coworker,” said Anne Marie McKee. “She was always on top of any procedure or policy and never hesitated to provide guidance. I always knew when she was helping me that the details would be correct and I was safe in her hands. I will miss her guidance and encouragement."

Help for Wendell and Family

The Vol State family is rallying around one of its own this week. Wendell Keith, Maintenance Lead Worker in Plant Operations, had a devastating fire at his home Monday. The Keith family was home when the fire started and they were able to get out of the house without injury. But the home itself is a total loss.
Plant Operations has started a Go Fund Me account to help the Keith family with expenses. As of this writing 59 people have donated, raising $3440. If you would like to contribute, it’s easy to do. Just visit the Go Fund Me account.
