Walking with the Prez

"Walking with the Prez" kicked-off this week and it was a fine afternoon for a walk. About 20 people joined Dr. Faulkner and his wife Wanda for the brisk stroll. Many in the group walked three miles or more. It's going to be a regular event this fall.

Why the walking emphasis? Walking is a proven way to improve your health. Vol State was the host site for the kick-off for "Walk Across Sumner County".  Organizers are asking Sumner County residents to pledge to walk 34.5 miles (the total distance across Sumner County at its widest points) over the next four weeks.

Dr. and Mrs. Faulkner have expressed interest in helping Vol State employees become more fit and are encouraging faculty and staff to join them in walks around campus each Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. "Walking with the Prez" dates continue through October 4, and perhaps beyond.

Bobby Hudson is helping to lead this effort and will provide special “Walking with the Prez” t-shirts to participants once they reach milestones in the program.  In addition, Tandy Hamm has secured free pedometers for everyone who joins the group.

Hope to see you walking soon!
