Governor Haslam Visits Vol State

Governor Haslam is keeping track of how colleges and universities are implementing the Complete College Tennessee Act (CCTA). That process brought him to Vol State on Wednesday for a brief tour of campus led by Dr. Faulkner and a discussion of what the college has been doing to complete the Act initiatives.

The presentation and conversation focused on economic and workforce development, increased degree production and timely completion by students, institutional collaboration and minimized redundancy. Topics included the new Freshman Experience Tracks program and the Learning Commons expansion project.

The CCTA outlines plans for college and universities to provide better pathways for students, increase student success and ultimately completion. The formation of the Tennessee Community College System was part of the Act. The system is seen as a way to increase collaboration, thus better serving students and saving money.

The Governor was only on campus for a brief time and it didn't allow for any campus-wide events. We hope that the discussion helped to show Vol State successes in implementing measures to support the CCTA goals and also outlined challenges going forward.
